John J. Ramos, II

 

Bio

John Ramos II, a leading education and community development figure, currently serves as Principal of Interdistrict Discovery Magnet School in Bridgeport, CT. His unwavering commitment to equity initiatives has led to transformative changes within the school and district, instilling confidence and reassurance in his leadership. 

Through his leadership and support as Assistant Principal of Bunnell High School for 3 years, the school witnessed the establishment of various student leadership groups, the inception of an annual Cultural Showcase, and the prestigious recognition as a No Place for Hate School. Inspired by the CAS/CIAC Men of Color in Leadership Conference, Mr. Ramos initiated Bunnell's Men of Color Leadership Group in 2021, providing members with a safe environment for weekly meetings, volunteer projects, and leadership conferences. 

Before his role in Stratford, John Ramos II was the School Counseling Department Coordinator at Harding High School in Bridgeport, CT. With over 12 years of experience coaching high school football and wrestling, he brings a wealth of knowledge and dedication to his transformative leadership approach, emphasizing equity, proactive social-emotional strategies, and restorative practices. 

Mr. Ramos holds an Administrator Certification from Quinnipiac University, a Master’s degree in Counseling Education from UMass Amherst, an Education Specialist degree in Leadership/Administration from UMass Amherst, and a Bachelor’s degree in African-American Studies from Morehouse College. 

Deeply committed to the Bridgeport community, John is Director of Educational Activities & Development for Adversity to Prosperity, a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to uplifting communities through youth athletic programs, service, and education. He has held the position of Director of Educational Activities for the Zeta Phi Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. for eight years, as well as Director of Educational Activities for ONECA (Organization of New England Chapters of Alpha), impacting educational reach and community engagement.  

Mr. Ramos serves as the Connecticut President of NABSE (National Association of Black School Educators). He is actively pursuing his Doctorate of Philosophy in Educational Management at Delaware State University.
